Ellen Cook Courtney, formerly of Crawfordsville, IN, and Chicago, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
She was born in 1921 in Chicago to William D. and Helen Cook.
Ellen attended St. Thomas the Apostle High School and Moser Business College in Chicago. When she was 55, she returned to school (Prairie State Community College, Chicago Heights, IL) to become a registered nurse, and worked at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Dyer, IN. Ellen moved to San Francisco in 2004, and most recently was a resident of Vintage Golden Gate. She was also a member of St. Cecilia Parish and the Presidio Chapter of the DAR.
In 1944 in Chicago, she married Charles R. Courtney, who died Feb. 7, 2001.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, William E. Cook.
Surviving are three children, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, where her husband, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are buried. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
