John Kirk McVay, 75, of Rolling Prairie, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at his home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1939, in LaPorte to John J. and Mildred E. (Piper) McVay.
John, a U.S. Army veteran, worked as a supervisor for TP Orthodontics. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was a Boy Scout leader for 13 years and an avid sailor for 15 years. John was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making toys for his grandchildren. He was an avid reader and had a love for the outdoors.
Surviving are his sons, Heath (Michelle) E. McVay of New Carlisle, IN, and John (Catherine) McVay of LaPorte; grandchildren, Devin McVay, Derek McVay, Logan McVay, Lauren McVay, Amber Schoff, Shelbi Schoff, and Sydney McVay; and sisters, Garnet Schreiber of Rolling Prairie and Evelyn Upp of Brownsburg, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, June McVay and Geraldine McVay.
A Celebration of Life Service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service.
