Kenneth J. Moryl, son, husband, father, grandfather and community member, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015.
Ken, son of Sophia (Demski) and Stanley Moryl, was born April 11, 1942, in LaPorte.
Ken is a 1960 graduate of LaPorte High School and a 1963 graduate of Ball State Teachers College with a teaching degree in social studies. He received his master’s degree from Ball State University in 1965. St. Mary’s in Michigan City, IN, was his first teaching assignment. Ken continued and finished his teaching career with 42 years of service at LaPorte High School. Ken was an avid reader and an enthusiastic spectator at his grandchildren’s many activities. He also served his community as a City Councilman for 12 years as well as serving on the library and park boards, each for 16 years. As a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, he helped with many of its functions.
Ken and Chris Moryl (Wagner) were married Aug. 17, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Michigan City. They are blessed with six children: daughter, Maria Amor (husband Matthew) of LaPorte and granddaughter Jordan and fiancé Brett Cannon of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Joellen Kamp of Bridgman, MI, and granddaughter Emily and grandsons Michael and Jackson; daughter, Koreen Boger (husband Brian) of LaPorte and granddaughters Caroline, Jillian and MaKenzie; daughter, Melissa Garwood (Gregory Weliver) of LaPorte and grandson Ryan and granddaughter Rachel; daughter, Sloan Watson (husband Thomas) of Oak Park, IL, and granddaughters Maclaine and Elizabeth and grandson Owen; and son, Matthew of Indianapolis. He is brother to older sister Barbara Lykens (deceased), (husband Harry) of Kirkwood, MO, and younger sister Cynthia Edwards, (husband Daniel) of Frankfort, IL.
A time for visitation and remembrance will be held Friday, Jan. 23, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte. A private burial for the family will take place.
In lieu of flowers, may the family suggest a remembrance donation to the City of LaPorte Park and Recreation Department, 250 Pine Lake Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350, or Hope Ministries, 532 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46601, two organizations of which he was especially passionate.
