Michael Allen Stranad, 62, of Michigan City, IN, died peacefully at 12:14 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, in his home.
He was born June 20, 1952, in Michigan City to Richard William and Lillian (Lundgren) Young.
Michael honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Skwiat Post 451, DAV and VFW Post 2536 in Michigan City. Michael worked as a truck driver and had also worked for the Indiana Toll Road. He was a loving father, son, brother and grandfather.
Surviving are his mother, Lillian Young of Michigan City; one daughter, Laci Michelle Helterbrand of LaPorte; two sisters, Rita Meltz of LaPorte and Dolly Paige of Michigan City; two brothers, Richard Stranad and Don Young Jr., both of Michigan City; one grandchild, Kade Alexander Helterbrand; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father; one sister, Kimberly Young; and his grandparents.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Pastor James Bouslog officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the service.
