Mr. Harry E. Lake Sr., 77, of LaPorte, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Nov. 19, 1937, in LaPorte to Harry and Carlotta (Cottrell) Lake.
Harry worked as a machinist for 25 years at Allis-Chalmers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Harry loved to play cards, tell jokes and gamble. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was a very sociable person. Harry especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his son, Harry (Kate) Lake Jr. of Michigan City, IN; two daughters, Melissa (Mike) Krueger of Michigan City and Tina (Greg) Swan of Mishawaka, IN; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Dale Lake of LaPorte and Tom Lake of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Lake; brother, Jim Lake; half-sister, Margaret Morrissoe; and half-brother, Don Shelley.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Barnes officiating, and a military service conducted by LaPorte American Legion Post 83 and LaPorte VFW. Cremation will take place.
