Mrs. Joan A. Heaps, 80, of LaPorte, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born Nov. 17, 1934, in Tracy, IN, to Wayne E. and MaryAnn (Thompson) Peeples.
Joan was a substitute teacher for LaPorte School Corp. and was a member of Door Village United Methodist Church, helping with many activities. Joan loved to cook and was an avid seamstress. She was an example to her family and grandchildren on how to live a fruitful and strong life. Joan loved her family and grandchildren very much.
She was married to Kenneth Heaps; they were to celebrate their 60th anniversary in June of 2015.
She is survived by her husband, of LaPorte; two sons, Shawn (Debra) Heaps of LaPorte and Christopher (Karen) Heaps of Winter Springs, FL; daughter, Kennetha (David) Eikelberg of Oviedo, FL; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Daniel Peeples and Gene E. Peeples; and one sister, Georgia Ann Peeples.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at Kingsbury Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
