Don Barton Young, Jr., 62, of La Porte, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 12:44 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, in his home.
He was born March 17, 1958, in Michigan City, Ind., to Don Barton Young, Sr., and Lillian (Lundgren) Young.
Don was an amazingly talented carpenter and had worked in the field for most of his adult life. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Don was also a mischievous jokester who always loved to tease others. He enjoyed an ice-cold Icehouse, spending time with his family and friends, and bonfires. Don also enjoyed his T-shirts, flannels, jeans and ball cap, as well as animals and watching Andy Griffith and The Munsters. Don was very proud of his children and had volunteered for the volunteer fire department.
Surviving are his mother, Lillian Young; seven children, Tamika Blake of Michigan City, David (Torrina) Blake of New Buffalo, Mich., Jessica and Benjamin Young, both of Michigan City, Aaron (Robyn) Young Sr. of La Porte, Daniel (Jill) Young of Michigan City, and Emily (Adam) Williams of Michigan City; two sisters, Rita Meltz of La Porte and Dolly Page of Michigan City; 10 grandchildren; close nephews, Justin (Courtney) Pippin and Joseph Cooper; and nieces and nephews, Laci, Amber, Sarah, Alisha, Zachary, Jr., Lora, and John, who all knew him as “Uncle D.”
Preceding him in death were his father; two brothers, Michael and Richard Stranad; one sister, Kimberly Fatter; and one niece, Dawn Warren.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte. Visitation and viewing will be from 11 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.
