Michael John Boardman, 75, of La Porte, Ind., died peacefully March 17, 2021, at his home.
He was born Feb. 16, 1946, in La Porte to Bill and Jean (Bowman) Boardman.
Mike graduated in 1964 from La Porte High School, where he played on the varsity football team. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University in 1969. For the majority of his career, Mike was an insurance claims adjustor.
Mike enjoyed many things in life, including boating on Pine Lake, meticulously tending to his yard, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities, growing tomatoes, and following his beloved Cubbies. He, his wife Jan and their large family gathered for many, many big meals and special occasions over the decades, inviting extended family members and friends who became family as well. No one went home hungry or unhappy.
On Aug. 5, 1967, in Michigan City, Ind., he married Janet Voris, who survives.
Also surviving are his four children, twins Matt (Pam) and Jen Boardman, Sydney (Mark) Roule and Michael (Bekah) Boardman, all of La Porte; 10 grandchildren, Addison, Noah, Jack and Grady Boardman, Lily and Lucy Alberts, Nolan and Ian Roule, and Owen and Grant Boardman; three siblings, Chris (Cindi) Boardman, Tony Boardman and Beth Boardman; Linda Boardman, wife of his late brother Steve; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Boardman.
There will be no services. Cremation will take place.
