Lois Idella Dyer, 89, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at Brentwood Assisted Living in La Porte.

She was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Hanna, Ind., the daughter of Merl L. and Gladys (Cumerford) James.

A resident of Rolling Prairie, Ind., since 1955, Lois moved to New Carlisle, Ind., in 1995.  A member of Wesleyan Church in New Carlisle, Lois was a homemaker and an Avon representative, a job she loved. She enjoyed traveling with the “Avon ladies,” going to conventions and workshops in places like Branson, Mo. Lois had a passion for making ceramics, which she gave to all of her children and grandchildren, but her greatest passion were her grandkids and great-grandkids, who were the loves of her life.  She had a porcelain doll collection, was a huge Cubs fan and NASCAR fan (especially Jeff Gordon), and loved gardening.  She and her husband spent many hours sitting together and watching the hummingbirds gather at their feeders in the backyard.

On April 19, 1952, in Door Village, Ind., she married William Dyer, who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2019.

Lois was also preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; her brother, Robert James; and her sister, Shirley (James) Buehrer.

She is survived by her two sons, Richard (Kathleen) Dyer of New Carlisle and Daniel (Debra) Dyer of La Porte; daughter, Terry (Kevin) O’Neil of Rolling Prairie; 7 grandchildren, Ken and Jeff Weir, Lisa Durham, Mikayla Golden, Justin Dyer, Brooke Dyer-Wolf, and Christine Koster; 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family.

The family will hold a private memorial service and interment of cremated remains Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Ind. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org or 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601; or Wesleyan Church, 32645 Early Rd., New Carlisle, IN 46552.
