On Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020, the world lost a beautiful soul. Joyce Ann Koerner, 82, lived a long and full life.
She was born April 4, 1938 in Anniston, Ala. to Lawrence and LouAnna Jackson (Scarber) Hale.
She was married to the love of her life for almost 57 years, Gerald Paul Koerner, who preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2013.
Joyce loved her Lord, she loved playing the piano and she enjoyed kayaking. Long walks and gardening were a comfort to her. Growing up, the Koerner home was warm and welcoming to all comers — the landing spot and safe zone for all the kids in the neighborhood. More than anything else, Joyce loved her family. The union of Joyce and Gerald created a large, loving and growing family. Everyone who remains, will miss her dearly.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela Kaye (Nigel) Neely of Roebuck, S.C., Lori (John) Ehrlich of Atlanta, Ga. and Cynthia Lynn (Greg) Nolan of La Porte, Ind.; sons, Preston Lawrence (Jennifer) Koerner of St. Mary’s, Ga. and Michael Edward (Stacy) Koerner of Hinesville, Ga.; brother, Preston Lenton Hale of Anniston, Ala.; grandchildren, Jake Endicott, Jake Campbell, Jared Koerner, Paul (Amanda) Neely, Sloan (Alaina) Neely, Rachel (Will) Gladden, Jessica Koerner, Sean Nolan, and Chris (Mary) Koerner; seven great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul; sisters, June Hosmer and Ruth Johnson; brother, Noal Hale; and grandson, Aaron Campbell.
The family will hold a Zoom celebration of her life at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13 with Pastor Ray Hellings officiating.
