Michael Reed Livengood, Jr., 42, of La Porte, Ind. passed away unexpectedly at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Ill.
He was born Dec. 16, 1977 in Hobart, Ind. to Michael Reed Livengood, Sr. and Ceceilia Earleen (Wood) Livengood.
Mike was very involved in the La Porte County community, volunteering his time and making donations to different organizations. He served five years as a county representative for ABATE, and was known there as “Big Daddy.” Mike was an assistant director for the American Legion Riders and was a current member of Skwiat Post 451. He worked as a mechanic for Schneider Trucking in Indiana for over five years.
Mike enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working on cars and spending time with his family and friends. Most important to Mike was spending time with his grandchildren. He was everyone’s hero, a true peacekeeper. He had a way of making everyone laugh and always thought of others before himself. If you called him any time, day or night, Mike was always there. He will be greatly missed.
On June 9, 1995 in Valparaiso, Ind. he married Heather Lea (Williams) Livengood, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Savannah Livengood of La Porte, Michael Livengood III of Jacksonville, N.C., Montana Livengood of La Porte and Tyler James (Heather Hill) Livengood of Edwardsburg, Mich.; sisters, Jennifer (Jeremy) Mears of Porter, Ind., Heather (Billy) Ralph of Sycamore, Ill. and Tracy (Dre Rutledge) Livengood of Hammond, Ind.; brothers, Robert (Catherine) Livengood of Roselawn, Ind. and Justin (Claire) Livengood of Hebron, Ind.; grandchildren, Isaac Reed Livengood, Harley Rae Livengood and Maverick Emerson Swarn; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and mother-in-law, Carol Hartman.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100, where a funeral celebrating his life will be held at 6 p.m. with Chaplain Dwight Adkins officiating.
