Tommy J. Hart, 69, of LaPorte, formerly of Michigan City, IN, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Feb. 9, 1948, in Warsaw, IN, to Allen and Georgia (Thompson) Hart.
Tommy honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 12 years and served 3 tours in Vietnam. Tommy’s civilian work experience has been in the field of law enforcement and security for over 30 years. He was Deputy Marshal for the Town of Kingsford Heights, and worked for the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office for 22 years. He retired from the field of law enforcement and security in July 2009. Tommy was a member of the DAV, Michigan City.
On Feb. 6, 1982, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Michigan City, he married Lorrayne (Bunton) Hart, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Stephanie (Mark) Fleshman of LaPorte, Ln (Jimmy) Russell of Michigan City, and Meredith (Nicholas) Igaz of South Bend, IN; four brothers, Kenneth (Naomi), Leonard (Lori), and Vere Kelley, all of Oregon, and Pat (Sherri) Kelley of Alaska; sister, Darlene (Jim) Maurer of New Paris, IN; five grandchildren, Hannah (Adam Cox) Sutherlin, Olivia Searing, Madeline and Emma Fleshman, and Mylee Igaz; a great-grandchild on the way, Delilah Lorrayne; aunt, Beulah Pratt of Kansas; uncle, Jack (Barb) Hart of Nappanee, IN; four brothers-in-law, Russell (Linda), Lee (Diana), John (Rosemary) and Jay (Cheryl) Bunton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Allen Hart and Georgia Kelley; in-laws, Harry and Anita Bunton; and nephew, Scott Bunton.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at noon, Wednesday, March 1, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Pastor James Bouslog officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
