Geraldine “Gerri” Fisher, 1930-2017

Geraldine Alice “Gerri” Fisher, 87, of LaPorte, died Feb. 25, 2017.

She was born Feb. 4, 1930, to Guy and Henrietta (Schultz) Boyce.

Gerri was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church on April 18, 1931. She was a lifetime resident of LaPorte and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang with the children’s choir, youth choir and adult choir. Gerri also sang with the St. John Walther League Chorus for many years. At Trinity, she was a Sunday school teacher, served on the Board of Directors in various capacities and was president of the Women’s Guild. She also formed and directed a group of volunteers for several years in making books of the Bible in Braille for Lutheran Braille Workers Inc.

Gerri was a volunteer at LaPorte Hospital and a member of HealthPORTE. She was a member of the Pottawattamie Audubon Society and served dinners at the Salvation Army.

Gerri was the sole owner of LaPorte Insurance Service and retired from Swanson and Swanson Insurance. She was also a co-owner of The House of Hansel and Gretel, a children’s specialty clothing store.

On Oct. 21, 1950, she married Norman L. Fisher, who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1959.

Gerri was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Noreen Palmer, Lois Levenhagen and Marilee McGuire.

She is survived by two daughters and a son: Ellen (Bruce) Augustine of Goshen, IN, Bruce (Louise) Fisher of Punta Gorda, FL, and Jody (Curtis) Passafume of Hilliard, OH; six grandchildren: Erik (Crystal) Augustine of West Lafayette, IN, Bryan (Bridget) Augustine of Wesley Chapel, FL, Dana (Cole) Holmgren of Overland Park, KS, Hayley Fisher of Louisville, KY, Maegan Passafume of Lowell, MA, and Nathan Passafume of Orlando, FL; four great-grandchildren: Tristan, Kaeden, Corbin and Ayla; brother, Robert Boyce of Martinsville, IN; sister, Nadine Hall of Bellevue, WA; many nieces and nephews; and her special companion, Don Blaze.

Visitation will be at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte, on Thursday, March 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, LaPorte, on Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 a.m. until the service.
