Bruce Bodie, 1963-2013

Bruce !23Bruce Andrew Bodie, 50, of Athens, AL, and formerly of LaPorte, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at his residence after a two-year battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He was born Feb. 13, 1963, in LaPorte to Harry A. and Thelma (West) Bodie.

Bruce graduated from LaPorte High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17. Reaching the rank of Master Sergeant, he served in the Army for 24 years. Bruce served in Germany and Korea and was a veteran of the Gulf Wars (Desert Storm/Iraqi Freedom). He was deployed to Iraq many times, and had been on every continent except Australia. After retiring from the Army, Bruce worked for CAS WYLE for eight years. He was a Girl Scout leader and loved camping. Bruce also loved gardening, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and home improvement projects.

He is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Belinda L. Bodie; his mother, Thelma Bodie of Nashville, TN; three sons, Anthony R. Kratz of Rolling Prairie, IN, Shawn D. Muirhead and Cody A. Muirhead; four daughters, Anna (Bodie) Marshall, Angela (Bodie) Hurtubise, Carrie L. Muirhead and Brianne R. Muirhead; two brothers, Paul A. Bodie of New Orleans, LA, and Mark C. Bodie of Smyrna, TN; two sisters, Pamela J. Bodie and Kristina Bodie, both of Nashville, TN; 10 grandchildren, Tyler and Michael Kiger, Alexis Kratz, Justin, Austin, Sadie, Ava and Gage Muirhead, Liam Marshall, and Leah Lawson; three nephews, Mat Owens of Nashville, Alex Bodie of Smyrna and Anthony Bodie of New Orleans; one niece, Sara, of Smyrna; his Uncle Joe West of LaPorte; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry A. Bodie, and grandmother, Leona Benner.

A full military rites funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. CST at McConnell Memorial Chapel, Athens, AL, with Darryl Goldman officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. CST at the funeral home.

Yvonne “Bonnie” McKenna, 1929-2013

Yvonne M. “Bonnie” McKenna, 84, died at 5:35 p.m. EST Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, IN.

She was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Paul and Gertrude (Gardner) Brown and had lived in the LaPorte area for 22 years, coming from Kalamazoo, MI.

Bonnie was a homemaker and had also worked at Gilmore’s Department Store as a clerk in Kalamazoo, MI. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered at Handley Elementary School for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, but above all, she was a devoted follower of Christ, where she lived out Micah verse 6:8, to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with her God.

On March 11, 1950, in White Cloud, MI, she married Edward J. McKenna, who preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1994.

Two sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Thomas (Debra) McKenna of Kalamazoo, MI; three daughters, Diane (Edward) Stacker of Mishawaka, IN, Pamela (Max) Miller of LaPorte and Karen (Kevin) Alofs of Holland, MI; nine grandchildren, Geoff and Christopher McKenna, Daniel (Kristina) and Ben Stacker, Courtney and Callie Miller, and Ashley, Sarah and Alexander Alofs; six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jordyn, Aidan, Josie, Kendra, and McKenna Grace; one sister, Doreen (Dale) Walgomuth of Grand Ledge, MI; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Fran McKenna of Ada, MI, and Joanne McKenna of Tacoma, WA; and two brothers-in-law, Rev. Robert McKenna and Tom (Claire) Bettag of Washington, D.C.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Dennis Teles officiating. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, LaPorte. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or Handley Elementary School, 408 W. 10th St., LaPorte, IN 46350.

Norman Duerr, 1932-2013

Duerr PhotoNorman K. Duerr, 81, of LaPorte, died Nov. 19, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Chicago on Jan. 2, 1932, to Charles C. and Vierlyn (Clough) Duerr.

Norman graduated from Senn High School in Chicago and attended Wright Junior College and Northwestern University. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, stationed part of the time in Japan. He worked as an accountant and computer programmer in the Chicago area and moved to LaPorte in 1969. He worked for various companies in the area, including Teledyne, Levine’s and LaPorte Transit. He volunteered in the community for Fort La Play Porte, the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, and READ LaPorte County Inc. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a member of its choir and handbell choir for many years. He enjoyed music, starting with piano lessons from his mother, a concert pianist. He later learned to play the flute and organ and was self-taught on guitar, 5-string banjo and autoharp. He also enjoyed working on remodeling projects around the house and sailing and motorboating on Pine Lake.

On June 21, 1958, in LaPorte, he married Shirley (Jelke) Duerr, who survives.

Also surviving are his beloved children, Wendy S. (Scott) Schultz of LaPorte and Steven C. (Susan) Duerr of Carmel, IN, and granddaughter, Ashley N. Duerr of Kennesaw, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith Duerr; and sister, Dorothy Keeler.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Presbyterian Church of LaPorte with Rev. Sally Wicks officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service. A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. A private family interment will take place in the columbarium at the church.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Brooks, 1929-2013

She was born in LaPorte on July 6, 1929, to Harvey W. and Ella C. (Schultz) Replogle.

Jacqueline worked as a school bookkeeper for 38 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she remained actively involved. She was involved in NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) for many years and volunteered at the Swanson Activity Center in LaPorte.

On July 2, 1972, she married Edward Brooks, who preceded her in death.

Her parents also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her beloved children, Linda (Phillip) Kmitta of LaPorte and Larry L. Brooks of LaPorte; three grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Kmitta, Anthony (Kathleen) Kmitta and Alaina Kmitta; and two great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service. A private cremation committal will take place. Burial will take place at a later date at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

Frances BabcockFrances Janette Babcock, 72, of LaPorte, died Nov. 21, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Alvin, IL, on Feb. 8, 1941, to Frank Mason and Lura Mae (Huffman) Fetters.

Frances was a dedicated homemaker and a very talented dog groomer.

On Jan. 13, 1962, she married James Babcock, who survives.

Also surviving are her beloved children, Debbie Babcock of Niles, MI, and Cheryl (Wayne) McGee of Walkerton, IN; three grandchildren, Ashley Wolff of Michigan City, IN, and Tara McGee and Molly McGee, both of Walkerton; and two sisters, Judy (Gerald) Finney of Brownsville, NY, and Donna Baldwin of LaPorte.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Joann Boyd and Bud Fetters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Friends and family will be received Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service. A cremation committal will take place with a private burial to follow at Door Village Cemetery.

Dorothy Adeline Lundell, 85, of LaPorte, died Nov. 24, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

She was born in Steger, IL, on April 14, 1928, to Samuel and Adeline (Bruns) Wieringa.

Dorothy retired from LaPorte Hospital. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had also served as president of the LaPorte Hospital Retirees Association.

On Nov. 29, 1946, she married Carl Lundell, who survives.

Also surviving are her beloved children, Sandra (William) Pieper of Vernon Hills, IL, Alan (Diana) Lundell of LaPorte and Bryon (LuAnn) Lundell of Phoenix, MD; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three siblings, Samuel (Audrey) Wieringa of Arizona, Eugene (Marilyn) Wieringa of Illinois and Eileen Genzler of Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family committal service will be held at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, IL, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

John Tuznik, 1923-2013

John TuznikJohn Tuznik, 90, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 12:05 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 24, 1923, in Krempa, Poland, to Jan and Jozefa (Traczynski) Tuznik.

John worked at Kingsley Furniture, LaPorte, for 30 years and owned Tuznik Upholstery. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Michigan City, IN. John enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, boating, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

On March 6, 1954, in Oslo, Norway, he married Nancy (Gjersengen) Tuznik, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Steve (Laura) Tuznik and Janet (Andrew) Pray, both of LaPorte; one sister, Jadwiga Krawczyk; and four grandchildren, Nils, Hans, Lars and Sven.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and one sister, Krystyna Borowska.

A memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, with Rev. Walter M. Ciesla officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte.

Mary “Cass” Taylor, 1926-2013

img003Mrs. Mary C. “Cass” Taylor, 87, of LaPorte, died Nov. 23, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

She was born March 12, 1926, in LaPorte to Frank and Mary (Povlock) Wurster. She had lived in LaPorte most of her life and also lived for eight to 10 years in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Mary was a homemaker. She graduated from LaPorte High School in 1943 and then from St. Margaret School of Nursing, Hammond, IN. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beechwood Women’s Golf Association and Sandpiper Bay Women’s Golf Association. She was an avid bridge player, reader and golfer.

On May 7, 1949, in LaPorte, she married William H. Taylor, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2001.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Thomas Taylor; and one brother, Don Wurster.

Mary is survived by three sons, Timothy (Linda) Taylor of Linton, IN, Ted (Andrea) Taylor of LaPorte and Todd (Julie) Taylor of LaPorte; 11 grandchildren, Lindsay Bell, Christopher Taylor, Kaitlyn Taylor, Cody Taylor, Molly Taylor, Max Taylor, Miles Taylor, Stephanie Ruff, Craig Miller, Josh Taylor, and Andrew Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Isa Taylor, Mia Taylor, Isabelle Ruff and Hayes Bell; one sister, Marge Gorton of Spokane, WA; two brothers, William (Ruth) Wurster and James (Elaine) Wurster, both of LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

He was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Indianapolis to William and Kathryn (Gilbert) Williams.

Dennis worked for 23 years at Aero Metals, retiring in 2003. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. Dennis was a member of LaPorte VFW and an avid Colts fan.

On April 5, 1980, in LaPorte, he married Katherine (McClaine) Williams, who survives.

He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Pam Stahly of South Bend, IN; stepson, Jim (Linda) Thompson of Warsaw, IN; three grandchildren, Colton Thompson, Stephanie Thompson and Brandon Thompson; two sisters, Gwen (Dave) Worsham of Carmel, IN, and Wendy (Rick) Wagner of Indianapolis; two nieces, Kate Ellen Brinkmeyer and Kara (Mike) Frazer; two nephews, Nicholas Worsham and Scott Wagner; his aunt, Irene Logan; his uncle and aunt, Arland and Shirley Williams; and his special dog, Snuggles.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 30, at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, from 9 a.m. to noon. A life celebration will be held Saturday at noon at the funeral home with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Cremation will take place. A military service will be conducted by the LaPorte Honor Guard at the funeral home.

Doris Ruth Bailey, 80, of LaPorte, died Nov. 26, 2013, at Golden Living Care Center, Crown Point, IN.

She was born in Long Island, NY, on Nov. 12, 1933, to Fritz and Frida (Lichtblau) Hekter.

Doris served her country honorably in the United States Air Force.

She was married on July 23, 1960, to Robert Coombs, who preceded her in death in 1966.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fritz and Herbert, and one sister, Hildegard Bradfield.

Surviving are her brothers, Walter (Dorothy) Hekter of Valparaiso, IN, and Gary (Kathie) Hekter of Michigan City, IN; sister, Elly Kruger of LaPorte; and 15 nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Doris’ wishes, no public visitation or services are planned. Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

She was born in Michigan City, IN, on May 21, 1936, to Lewis and Margaret (Kunze) Antisdel.

Nancy retired as an industrial efficiency analyst for Modine Manufacturing. She was an active member of Door Village United Methodist Church for many years. Nancy always put others above herself, making sure that her family and friends were taken care of.

Surviving are her beloved children, Lori Jo Carmichael of Morrisville, NC, and Scott B. Carmichael of Carthage, NC; four grandchildren, David, Chris, Tanner and Hannah; and a sister, Sara Crane of Tucson, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dealton Brown; her parents, and her siblings, Marie, John and Donald.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Door Village United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Billy Nickrand officiating. A private cremation committal will take place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Burial will follow at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.

He was born June 28, 1942, in Chicago to Edmund T. and Alfreda Berent.

Ed was a retired insurance agent who had owned and operated an agency in Skokie, IL. He also owned and operated Hire Susan’s Husband in LaPorte. Ed was a member of the Hosta Association and of the Humane Society. He was also an avid gun collector.

Surviving are his best friend and former spouse, Suzanne Ritchey Berent of Michigan City, IN; his son, Craig (Caprece) Berent of Aurora, IL; his daughter, Catherine (Tony) Nittie of Lindenhurst, IL; four granddaughters, Nicole, Gabrielle, Alessandra and Juliana Nittie; and his sister, Diane Berent Griffen of Parrish, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. until the service. A private cremation committal will take place.

Margaret SullivanMargaret Sullivan, 77, of Fish Lake, IN, and formerly of LaPorte, died peacefully at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at her home.

She was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Chicago to George and Mable (Skobis) Seamon.

Margaret worked as a manager at Quick’s Bowling Alley in LaPorte for 30 years. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards with her friends.

On Feb. 14, 1968, in Chicago, she married Bob Sullivan, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Patsy Schwein; one brother, George Seamon; one son, Wally Wazniek; and one daughter, Chris Piotrowicz.

Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Gosciniak of Fish Lake; son-in law, John Gosciniak of LaPorte; one sister, Toni Huber of Chicago; six grandchildren, Jody (Tonya) Piotrowicz, Jason (Cari) Gosciniak, Justin Gosciniak, Jordan Gosciniak, Kori (Jim) Poluski, and Wiley Wazinek; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 7732 E. Ind. 4, Fish Lake, with Michael Heimer officiating. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

Judith K. Jones, 70, of LaPorte, died unexpectedly at 1 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in her home.

She was born in Lawrenceville, IL, on March 31, 1943, to Howard and Jeanette (Tewell) Jones.

Judith loved her family and grandchildren very much, including her dog, Payton. She enjoyed cross stitch, crossword puzzles, crocheting, television court trials and Facebook. She especially loved her friends, neighbors, and having company around.

Surviving are four children, Tim Manuszak of LaPorte, Sandy (Chris) Byrd of Schererville, IN, Jeff Manuszak of LaPorte and Deb (Jeff) Wisniewski of Chesterton, IN; three sisters, Carol Scheffki and Sandra (George) Vincent, both of Lansing, IL, and Marge (Marty) Papusch of Hebron, IN; eight grandchildren, Katie, Brandon, Lindsay, Alexis, Tristen, Tyler, Chloe, and Cal; and two great-grandchildren, Kegan and Logan.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Gary Jones and Victor Jones; and one son, Brian Manuszak.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the service.

Raymond Fear, 1926-2013

He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Willow Hill, IL, to Wilbert and Velva (Miller) Fear.

Raymond worked as a tool and die maker for 22 years at Conrad Corporation and retired from Aero Metals as a mold maker after 13 years in 1990. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsbury, a past member of Duneland Wood Carver Society, and volunteered at REAL Services at the Salvation Army. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking. He made birdhouses for the park department, taught Sunday school and was a deacon for many years at the church. Raymond built his own house from the ground up.

On Nov. 17, 1945, in Michigan City, IN, he married Alice Fox Fear, who preceded him in death Jan. 19, 2012.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Juanita Spencer.

He is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Art) Michaels of LaPorte; two sons, James (Sandy) Fear of Burnsville, MN, and Daniel (Andrea) Fear of LaPorte; his brother, Everett Fear of Terre Haute, IN; his sister, Grace Smith of Vincennes, IN; and five grandchildren, Amy Michaels of LaPorte, Angela Wisneski of Mishawaka, IN, Shane Reid of LaPorte, and Matthew Fear and Pamela Fear, both of Burnsville, MN.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Monday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., and at First Baptist Church of Kingsbury, IN, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 9 to 10 a.m. A life celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Kingsbury Cemetery.

Dale Schoff, 1935-2013

Dale H. Schoff, 78, of LaPorte and formerly of South Bend, IN, died peacefully at 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

He was born July 18, 1935, in LaPorte to Lawrence and Sylvia (Clifford) Schoff.

Dale worked as an electrical engineer at Easy Heat for 46 years. He attended Western Michigan University and Auburn Community College in New York, and he graduated from Indiana University. Dale honorably served in the United States Army in Korea. He was a member of American Legion Post 83.

On Aug. 13, 1983, in New Rumley, Ohio, he married Donna (Brown) Schoff, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Gregory Schoff of Niles, MI, Kathleen (Matthew) VanBuskirk of North Wilkesboro, NC, Patricia (Roy) Gragg of South Bend and Andrew Schoff of LaPorte; two siblings, Ernest Schoff of Florida and Sharon Schoff of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Daniel Kovach, Kelsey Schoff, Olivia VanBuskirk and Emma VanBuskirk; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Margaret Novak; and two brothers, Lawrence Schoff and Kenneth Schoff.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at The Salvation Army, 3240 Monroe St., LaPorte. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

Martin Foster, 1947-2013

Martin Oliver Foster, 66, of LaPorte, died Dec. 1, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

He was born Nov. 5, 1947, to Lloyd M. and Alice M. (Strong) Foster.

Martin worked at Trattoria Enzo in LaPorte. He enjoyed walking, collecting baseball caps and watching John Wayne movies, and he had a passion for puzzles. He was very proud of his family and was considered a gentle giant to all.

On Jan. 7, 1991, he married Connee Lee (Galloway) Foster, who survives.

Also surviving are his son, Christopher (Angie) Foster of Williston, ND; stepdaughter, Kelly Snyder of Rolling Prairie, IN; grandchildren, Ben and Andrew Foster; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Debbie.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Rev. Roger Ash officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Union Mills Cemetery.

Kenny “Bud” Hargus, 1964-2013

bud_grad_picKenny L. “Bud” Hargus, 49, of LaPorte, died at 12:04 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 10, 1964, in Port Lavaca, Texas, to Kenneth and Marie (LeRoy) Hargus and lived most of his lifetime in LaPorte.

Bud worked at Sullair Corporation for 25 years. He attended Living Way Church in Michigan City. He was a 1982 graduate of Rogers High School, Michigan City, and earned an associate degree from Ivy Tech and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends.

On June 29, 1991, in Michigan City, he married Paula K. Chelemengos, who survives.

He also leaves behind two sons, Kenneth C. and Nickolas Hargus, both of LaPorte; one brother, David (Patsy) Hargus of Port Lavaca, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patrice Hargus; and one brother, Terry Hargus.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Pastor Victor Prietto officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

Kathryn Hooten, 1923-2013

20131203-133905_KathrynHooten250Mrs. Kathryn E. Hooten, 90, of Mill Creek, IN, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte.

She was born March 6, 1923, in North Liberty, IN, to John and Verde (Miller) Worthington.

Kathryn was a cook for 10 years at Fountainview Nursing Home. She was a 1942 graduate of Mill Creek High School. Kathryn enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

On Feb. 18, 1943, in Brownsville, TX, she married Ernest W. Hooten, who preceded her in death March 15, 1968.

Kathryn was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dianne S. Wolff; son-in-law, Walker Wolff; granddaughter, Tina E. (Ward) Rapp; five sisters, and seven brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary L. (Wesley) Ward of Mill Creek; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte. A life celebration will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Moxey officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek.
