Alfred Harness Jr., 88, of Kingsford Heights, IN, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born May 17, 1926, in LaPorte County to Alfred and Adeline (Shults) Harness.
Alfred retired from Modine Manufacturing Company in 1991. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he was a member of Kingsford Heights Wesleyan Church.
On June 2, 1951, in Walkerton, IN, he married Virginia Mae Monroe, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2012.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and six sisters.
Surviving are his son, David W. Harness of Kingsford Heights; stepdaughter, Judy Rowlett of Bonanza, OR; grandchildren, Andrea Harness of Indianapolis and Kristen and Hayley Harness of Kingsford Heights; great-grandchild, Ellie; three step-grandchildren, Richard Rowlett of Klamath Falls, OR, and Bill and A.J. Rowlett of Roy, WA; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Jerry Goens officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Interment will take place in Kingsbury Cemetery.
