Richard Talbot, 1935-2015

Talbot, Richard obit photoRichard “Dick” A. Talbot, 80, of LaPorte, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Moline, IL, to Earl and Helen (Holland) Talbot.

Richard served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during both the Korean and Vietnam wartimes. He worked for International Harvester, Allis-Chalmers, and retired as a maintenance operator for the Indiana Department of Transportation. Following retirement, he stayed busy working for another 15 years at the Little Tavern. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and PRCU, all of LaPorte. Richard was a talented musician who loved to play the acoustic guitar, sing and dance. He also loved to bowl and play pool and darts.

On Oct. 1, 1990, he married Joanne K. Martin, who survives.

Also surviving are six children, Richard Reed, Sue Talbot-Weiss of Indiana, Elizabeth (Bryan) Frank of Indiana, Anita (Jimmy) Holloway of West Virginia, Billy Bailey of Louisiana, and Bonnie (Bryan) Marple of West Virginia; three stepchildren, Kari (Tim) Wilke of Indiana, Eric (Sylvia) Nelson of Germany and Lisa (Mike) Shrader of Indiana; a brother, Earl “Bud” Talbot of Indiana; many grandchildren: Samantha and Loralie of Indiana; Seth and Levi of West Virginia; Tyler, Dakota, and Ashley of Louisiana; Alexis, Tiffany, Abigale and Tristan of West Virginia; Kristin of Indiana; Seth of North Carolina; and Michaela and Ben of Indiana; and several great-grandchildren: John, Miriam, Lee, Eoin and Myla of Indiana, Sophia of Louisiana, Kaidence of Indiana, and Solomon and Barrett of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian; a stepson, Steven; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte “Charlie”; and two sisters, Marlene and Joanne.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, on Friday, May 1, at 5 p.m. with Pastor Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Friday from 3 p.m. until the service. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home. A cremation committal has taken place.
