Mr. Robert L. Stevens, 72, of LaPorte, died Friday, April 3, 2015, at his home.
He was born June 1, 1942, in LaPorte to Don L. and Frances (Shoemaker) Stevens.
Robert worked as a Teamster truck driver for 35 years at LaPorte Transit and after retirement worked at Tony’s Small Engine Repair. He graduated in 1960 from Rolling Prairie High School and he was a member of the Rolling Prairie Conservation Club. Robert has a 1950 Studebaker and a 1963 Chevrolet Impala that he loved to take to car shows and cruise nights throughout the area. He always enjoyed meeting up with other car enthusiasts.
On June 6, 1980, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Shirley M. Feece, who preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2008.
Robert was also preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Therman Lee.
He is survived by three daughters, Bobbie Maesch of Rolling Prairie, Jeri Stevens of Wanatah, IN, and Jodi Stevens of Niles, MI; stepdaughter, Tina (Kurt) Randall of New Carlisle, IN; stepson, Tony Tarnow of Rolling Prairie; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Larry Stevens of Venice Beach, FL, Al Stevens of LaPorte, Jim Lee of Saint Paul, MN, and Bruce Lee of Carmel, IN.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Wednesday, April 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, April 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
