Henry R. Pearce, 96, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 7:20 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Hamilton Grove in New Carlisle, IN.
He was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Michigan City, IN, to Henry F. and Elsie (Eggebrecht) Pearce.
Henry honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II as a photographer. He was a photographer for Olsen’s Studio and Tristate Printing. Henry also worked as a salesman with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Michigan City.
On Aug. 24, 1940, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Michigan City, he married the love of his life, Helen M. (Bacon) Pearce, who preceded him in death May 31, 2013.
Also preceding him in death was his parents and one brother, Rolland G. Pearce.
Surviving are four children, Joyce (Fred) Shatzer, Jeane (Dan) Walker, Joane Devon and James (Cathy) Pearce; three brothers, Frederick (Phillis) Pearce, Richard (Jeannette) Pearce and James (Shryl) Pearce; two sisters, Bernadine (Ralph) Kluge and Darlene Pearce; six grandchildren, Emily (Kyle) Root, Carley (Tim) Touhey, Malarie Pearce, Catherine (Jesse) Swing, Anthony Pearce, and Kristin Butler; and five great-grandchildren, Lillianna, Evelyn, Josie, Kaleb and Noah.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 20, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Pastor Bill Fine officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.
