Mr. Raymond P. “Pete” Hynek, 87, of LaPorte, died at 6:33 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 24, 1926, in LaPorte to Henry and Maria (Lizak) Hynek and was a lifelong resident of LaPorte.
Mr. Hynek was a self-employed farmer, co-owner of Raymar Farms, owner of Raymond P. Hynek Real Estate, and was an engineer coordinator for Joy Manufacturing for 40 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a U.S. Navy Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, past president of Springfield Township PTA, past president of Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, head usher for Sacred Heart Catholic Church, lifetime member of VFW Post 1130, retired member of Michigan City Board of Realtors, a Purdue University graduate in mechanical engineering, a licensed realtor, member of LaPorte County Farm Bureau, was vice president and treasurer of Anchor Savings & Loan Company, and was on the advisory board for Citizens Federal Savings Bank.
On Feb. 18, 1949, in LaPorte, he married Marian E. Jensen, who survives.
He also leaves behind two sons, Thomas (Cindy) Hynek of Alto, TX, and John (Terri) Hynek of LaPorte; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Kazmierczak of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen Hynek, four sisters and two brothers.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Wednesday, July 31, from 3 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m.; and on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow the Mass in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
