Victor Henry “Vic” Hockney, 86, of Union Mills, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015.
He was born May 5, 1928, in LaPorte to William Charles and Hattie (Felton) Hockney.
Vic was a farmer and a former guard at Westville Correctional Facility. He had also been employed with Clark Equipment and National Can. Vic served in the U.S. Army in the Occupation of Japan and the Korean Conflict, and received a Bronze Star Medal. He was a member and usher at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte; a 50-year member of American Legion Post 295, Union Mills, where he served as a past commander; and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Vic enjoyed bowling and gardening.
On April 19, 1952, he married Betty Rose Granat, his wife of 62 years, who survives.
Also surviving are children, Mark (Annie) Hockney of Hillsborough, NC, Gary Hockney of Two Rivers, WI, and Kirk (Jeanine) Hockney of Zionsville, IN; grandchildren, Jessica (Norm) Hicks of Apex, NC, Amanda (Curtis) Hockney of Greensboro, NC, Nicole (fiancé Andrew) Hockney of Eugene, OR, Sgt. Garrett Hockney of Germany, Ashley Hockney of New York City, and Keegan Hockney of Union Mills; and great-great-grandson, Riley Reagon Hicks.
Visitation will be held at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery.
