Joe Brush, 1929-2015

Joe D. Brush, 85, of LaPorte, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at his home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Robinson, IL, to David and Alta (Smith) Brush.

Joe performed maintenance for St. John’s Lutheran Church for 21 years, from 1974-1995. He was a U.S. Army corporal and served in the Korean War. He was very proud that both grandchildren, Shannon and Matthew, served their country in the military.

On May 26, 1956, he married Helen Moehlman, who preceded him in death on May 6, 1998.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his beloved friend, Willetta Butcher; and his siblings, Bernerd, Fern, Mervin, Eva, Martha, Harold, and Harlan.

Surviving are his beloved children, Martha (Ted) Okrzesik of LaPorte and Joanne (Joseph) Smiddie-Brush of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Shannon M. (Matthew) Collins of Porter, IN, and Matthew J. Okrzesik of LaPorte; great-granddaughter, Lynn M. Collins of Porter; and brothers, Orville Brush of Florida and Ernie Brush of California.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, LaPorte.
