Lorraine Nedza, 1932-2014

Nedza photoLorraine A. Nedza, 82, of LaPorte, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at her home.

She was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Chicago to Michael and Anna (Wilzewski) Witowicz and had lived in the LaPorte area since 1955.

Mrs. Nedza was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she worked as a secretary. She also worked for LaPorte Community School Corporation at Riley Elementary School as a media center specialist. She was a graduate of Wells High School, Chicago. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Polish Dancers and Polish Falcons Nest 564, and a former member of Merry Moderns Home Extension Club. She had served as a Sacred Heart Funeral Committee volunteer and taught First Communion education classes at Sacred Heart Church.

On Aug. 15, 1953, in Chicago, she married Stephen F. Nedza, who survives.

She also leaves behind three daughters, Theresa (Dan) Mayerik of Portage, IN, Catherine (Steve) Drabyn of Avon, IN, and Patricia (Bill) Werner of Hanna, IN; one son, Stephen “Butch” (Tami) Nedza of LaPorte; nine grandchildren, Kari Thirsk, Nick Mayerik, Christopher, Stephen and Kristen Drabyn, Aimee Coonfield, John Werner, Dr. Bill Werner, and Silas Nedza; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one sister, Adeline Weglarz of Lombard, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Mary Nedza; three brothers, Joseph, Stephen and William Witowicz; and one sister, Josephine Weglarz of Lombard, IL.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 3, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. Visitation will be held at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, Jan. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will follow the Mass in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
