Sherry Kay Ray, 77, of North Liberty, IN, and formerly of LaPorte, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
She was born Sept. 13, 1937, in LaPorte County to Elvis George and Sarah Olive Justine (Smith) Jones.
Sherry was a metallurgist at Howmet, retiring after 49 years. She was a charter member of Mill Creek Lions Club, and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Sunday Farmers, Rumely Antique Tractor Collectors, Pioneer Village at the Indiana State Fair, and IHCC Chapter 33. Sherry enjoyed sewing and cooking for her great-grandchildren.
On Dec. 19, 1953, in LaPorte, she married Larry Ray, who survives.
Also surviving are her beloved children, Kay M. (John) Zakes of Mill Creek, IN, Catherine (Douglas) Seymour of LaPorte and Cortney L. (Cynthia) Ray of Exchange, WV; four granddaughters, Kelly Ann Hawkins, Jillian Shelton, Julie Bannwart and Courtney Lynn Ray; six great-grandchildren, Isabelle Ann-Marne Hawkins, Kathlene Hawkins, Cole Shelton, Layke Bannwart, Lyla Bannwart, and Chase Shelton; her brother, Randall Jones of LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Richard Blair and Pastor Scotty Robertson officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service. The Lions Club will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery.
