Mrs. Dolores “Babe” Ann Lewis, 73, of LaPorte, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and friends, on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014.
She was born March 3, 1941, in Omaha, NE, to Robert and Florence (Boyens) McLaughin.
Babe worked at American Home Foods in LaPorte until it closed and then worked for LaPorte Community Schools. Babe loved her hummingbirds, wrens and bluebirds; she also enjoyed her flower beds. She was a NASCAR Jeff Gordon fan and enjoyed going to Blue Chip Casino. Most of all, she loved her family get-togethers, especially Easter and Christmas.
On April 20, 1973, she married William “Bill” Lewis, who survives.
She is also survived by her two sons, Larry (Cindy) Whisler and Danny Wisler; two daughters, Vicki (Gene) Church and Amy Mahlka; stepson, William Lewis; eight grandchildren, Rue and April Church, Brittany, Jesse, Ryan and Kyle Wisler, Harmonie Emerick, and Mike Crane; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Pam (Duane) Burger; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pamela Crane; and five brothers, Jimmy McLaughlin, Pep McLaughlin, Zeke McLaughlin, Don McLaughlin and Wayne Lindell.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. A life celebration will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dan McDonald officiating. Cremation will take place.
