James “Jim” Henry Dwyer Sr., 70, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Franciscan Communities Hospice, Michigan City, IN.
He was born Jan. 11, 1944, in East Chicago, IN, the only child to Henry and Mary (Domsic) Dwyer.
Jim graduated from Highland High School in 1962 and attended San Jacinto College in Texas. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He held realtor licenses and worked as a realtor in both Texas and Indiana. Jim most recently worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block. He enjoyed computers, games, eating out, traveling, gardening, movies, and viewing sports, especially the Cubs and Bears. Jim’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a previous member of the Lions Clubs in Texas and LaPorte. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte.
Surviving are his wife, Vicki; three sons, Justin (Hayley) Dwyer of Valparaiso, IN, James (Jane) Dwyer Jr. of Pennsylvania and Patrick Dwyer of California; two stepsons, James (Jane) Littiken of Quincy, IN, and Robert (Leigh) Littiken of Morocco, IN; stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Nick) Acosta of Texas; brother-in-law, James (Rhonda) Petrukitas of LaPorte; sister-in-law, Justine (David) Rumas and her family of Highland, IN; mother-in-law, Jennetta Petrukitas; grandchildren, Jasmine Dwyer, Casey, Meagan and Taylor McGuire, and Joseph Littiken; and numerous other in-laws, relatives and friends who kept life meaningful throughout his extended illness.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. until the service. Inurnment will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, in Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
