Doris M. Burger, 90, of LaPorte, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Hamilton Communities Inc. in New Carlisle, IN.
She was born Sept. 29, 1924, in South Bend, IN, to Marion and Maggie (Kaser) Richards.
Doris worked for 18 years for Howmet-Austenal Corp. She was a member of North Liberty Church of Christ, North Liberty, IN, and a former member of the County Line Church. She was a member of the Women’s Bowling Association. Doris was a devoted wife and mother; she was a farmer’s wife. She is described by her family as the best cook in the world; she loved to cook and always had food ready for the hired men working on the farm. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed spending time with her family or in church. She also enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, and traveling to her second home in Avon Park, Florida, for the winter months. Doris was a much loved mother who will truly be missed.
On April 12, 1941, in Lakeville, IN, she married Delbert Burger, who preceded her in death Sept. 29, 2010.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Ronald Burger; son, Dean Burger; and three sisters, Iris Grable, Linda Curtis and Marge Donahue.
She is survived by two daughters, Denise Burger and Debra Plank, both of LaPorte; son, Donald Burger of LaPorte; six grandchildren, Tina Burger of Ohio, Jenny (Tom) Salat of LaPorte, Christine (Larry) Calvert of LaPorte, Jeff (Jennifer) Plank of LaPorte, and Brian and Darrin Burger of Florida; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Roberts of South Bend.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. LaPorte time, and at North Liberty Church of Christ on Friday, Nov. 14, from noon to 1 p.m. LaPorte time. A life celebration will be held at the church Friday at 1 p.m. LaPorte time with Pastor Tim Stewart and Pastor Hugh Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.
