John Erickson Jr., 1951-2014

20140509-135930_JohnErickson002Mr. John G. Erickson Jr., 62, of LaPorte, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at his home.

He was born June 19, 1951, in LaPorte to John G. Sr. and Joan R. (McCormick) Erickson.

John worked as a truck loader for Lewis Bakery. He was a member of American Legion Post 83, Eagles Nest 2439, Moose Lodge 492, PRCU and Falcons. John was an avid bowler; he had bowled in many leagues. He liked to work with wood and was learning to become a locksmith. John loved to cook and watch the Food Channel, and enjoyed gardening. He had owned his own root beer stand in the state of Michigan. He was very sociable and would help anyone in need. He loved everyone and became friends. John loved his children and grandchildren.

On Nov. 26, 1973, in LaPorte, he married Rose Marie (Tarnow) Erickson, who preceded him in death.

John was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry A. Erickson.

He is survived by his son, John (Becky) Erickson III of LaPorte; three daughters, Kandi (Scott) Bradley of Rolling Prairie, IN, Randi (Bill) Keck of LaPorte and Dandi (Chris) Seibert of LaPorte; 14 grandchildren, Emily and Ian Bradley, Bill IV, Kaden and Analyn Keck, Hailee, John IV and Alexis Erickson, Brooke and Taylor Kegebein, and Kristen, Brandon, Aaron and Justin Seibert; two brothers, Robert Erickson and Danny Erickson, both of LaPorte; five sisters, Shirley (John) Million of LaPorte, Diana (Ron) Naccrato of Dunedin, FL, Susan (James) Hewitt of LaPorte, Patricia (Mark) Harper of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Sharon (Douglas) Winn of Lehigh Acres, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Tuesday, May 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, May 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Marron officiating. Cremation will take place.
