Mrs. Doris A. Strakowski, 84, of LaPorte, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at her home.
She was born April 21, 1930, in LaPorte to Orrie O. and Mable Irene (Taylor) Menke.
Doris had worked in shipping and receiving for Interstate Industries. She was a member of Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church and the Leukemia Foundation. She loved to play bingo. Doris volunteered for many years at the Center Township voting polls. She especially loved her family, who wants to thank Samantha McKiel for caring for Doris.
On Dec. 30, 1950, in LaPorte, she married Walter A. Strakowski, who preceded her in death May 5, 2011.
Doris was also preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Vera Greenleaf, Margaret Nowfel, Betty Krause and Jean Strzalkowski.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy A. Reese of LaPorte; two brothers, Richard (Sharon) Menke of Michigan City, IN, and Ronald (Penny) Menke of LaPorte; a sister, Alice (Dana) Achor of Fort Wayne, IN; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and Samantha McKiel of LaPorte, who was her caregiver.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
