Dallas Howard Butts, 80, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at Rittenhouse Village.
He was born May 1, 1941, in Michigan City to Howard and Irene (Thorpe) Butts.
Dallas proudly and honorably served as a U.S. Marine from 1962-1966, then again from 1967-1971, during the Vietnam era. He received theVietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Later, Dallas worked as a telephone cable splicer for many years at Indiana Bell. He enjoyed collecting Lionel trains.
On Jan. 23, 1988, in La Porte, he married Carol Jean King, who survives.
Also surviving are his stepsons, Michael A. Snyder of Altoona, Pa., and Gregory S. Snyder of South Bend, Ind.; siblings, Dixie Beach of Michigan City and Duane Butts of La Porte, Ind.; nephew, Danny Butts of La Porte; stepbrother, Dale Butts of Palatine, Ill.; and his beloved Labradoodle, Annie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dan Butts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will occur at a later date at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home. Full Military Honors will occur at 6 p.m.
