Charles Kenneth “Ken” Schnable, 78, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021.
He was born March 5, 1943, in Tampa, Fla., to Charles Kenneth and Juanita (Jones) Schnable.
Ken was the president of Schnable Alarm Systems, Inc.; a 32-year veteran of the La Porte Fire Department, 16 years as battalion chief and 4 years as fire chief; owner of Juanita’s Beauty Salon; and owner of Schnable’s Software Solutions. He served in the United States Air Force from March 8, 1962, to March 8, 1966, and attained the rank of A/2C. He was a member of Knights of Columbus – Saint Michael’s Council, American Legion Post 83, Society of American Magicians, and La Porte Eagles Arie 2439, past president of La Porte Lions Club, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Porte.
On Aug. 29, 1964, in Terre Coupee, Ind., Ken married Eleanore A. “Ellie” Malec, who preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2021.
He was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Theresa Schnable; his parents; and his sister, Kathleen (Schnable) Bachert.
He is survived by his two sons, K. Dirk (Amy Tomczak) Schnable and William Brook (Francisca Thompson) Schnable, both of La Porte; sister, Judith (Schnable) Whitaker of Hammond, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte. A Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m.
