Mary Frances Horner, 97, of Gurnee, Ill., passed away Friday, July 31, 2021, in Lake Geneva, Wis.
She was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Mishawaka, Ind., the daughter of Joseph and Mary Frances (Moranda) Carlino.
Mary was a Catholic and enjoyed cooking and baking. She lived in Michigan City, Ind., working as a librarian and a secretary, and in later years retired to Rolling Prairie, Ind. She lived in Gurnee and most recently Lake Geneva to be near her daughter.
On July 6, 1946, in Mishawaka, she married Alfred E. Horner, who preceded her in death in 2002.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Nick, Michael and Don Carlino; and her sisters, Anne Dietrich and Pamela White.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Skamra of Gurnee and Mary (Eric) Svendsen of Chesterton, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Lisa (Fraser) Horner of Bronxville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Carly (Bret) Wojcik of Lake Geneva, Stacy (Brad) Kaminscky of Spring Grove, Ill., Carl Svendsen of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sarah (David) Corso of Munster, Ind., Christopher (Amanda) Horner of Muncie, Ind., Tim Horner of Manassas, Va., and Becky (Sam) Schaub of Tijeras, N.M.; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Katie Schwind of South Bend, Ind.; and sister-in-law, Dora May Martinsen of British Columbia, Canada. Mary was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Horner of Rolling Prairie.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Posey Cemetery Chapel, CR-1000N, with interment to follow. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
