Barbara Sian Stanish, 22, of Rolling Prairie, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, in an automobile accident.
She was born Sept. 16, 1998, in La Porte, Ind., to Leon and Amy (Mofield) Stanish.
Barbara began her career with the Indiana Department of Correction in 2019 as a correctional officer at Indiana State Prison, where she was a member of its K-9 team. Agent Stanish then transferred in May 2021 to the Division of Parole Services at the South Bend Parole District, working in Elkhart County. She graduated from the Parole Academy in July 2021. She was a 2017 graduate of New Prairie High School and earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Southwestern Michigan College. She was a 10-year member of 4-H, where she was involved with pigs, goats, sheep, photography and scrapbooking. She was proud to have her own horse and loved animals. Barbara was an avid 3rd-base softball player, having played in high school and on travel teams. She loved the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team. She was active in Gleaners. When not working, she enjoyed camping, fishing and ATV riding.
She is survived by her parents, Leon and Amy Stanish of Rolling Prairie; brothers, Donald and Brandon Stanish of Rolling Prairie; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Barbara was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Stanish, and her maternal grandparents, Argull H. McKeehan, Sr., and Barbara (Clark) Pfeiffer, and her step-grandfather, George Pfeiffer.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Church, La Porte. Burial will follow at St. John Kanty Cemetery, Rolling Prairie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
