Gale Loren Schneider, 88, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte.
He was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Indianola, Neb., to Carl and Ella (Unger) Schneider.
Gale proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. During his service, he earned the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Gale was a truck driver for 35 years at Roadway Express. He retired in 1994. Gale enjoyed hunting, traveling, exercising, and watching old sitcoms.
On Jan. 20, 1956, in Crown Point, Ind., he married Phyllis Weidner, who survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Maureen (Barry) Apter of Benicia, Calif.; 3 granddaughters, Lauren (Harmon) Apter of Santa Cruz, Calif., Melissa (Sergio) Castro of Napa, Calif., and Natalie Apter of San Francisco, Calif.; 1 great-grandchild, Landon Castro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Patton Cemetery, La Porte.
