John Otto, 1945-2021

John William Otto, 76, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 4, 1945, in Gary, Ind., to William and Linda (Ozment) Otto.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-1969. His last duty assignment was aboard the USS Coral Sea. John received numerous decorations, medals and badges, including the NDSM, VSM (1), VCM and NUCR.

John was a casting expert for many years. He enjoyed reading and fishing. More than anything, John enjoyed spending time with his family.

On April 2, 1977, in Mill Creek, Ind., he married Vanasa White, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Mollie (Ryan) Hawkins of Watkinsville, Ga.; 2 grandchildren, Brady and Carter; brother, Tom (Bonnie) Otto of Lafayette, Ind.; brothers-in-law, Hirian Wiltfong and Harlan (Nancy) Wiltfong; sisters-in-law, Darla (Tom) Schroeder and Pamela (Larry) Schmalfeldt; and nieces, Jennifer (Warren) Lahr of Lafayette, Jenny Gidcomb of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Tara (Tony) Lemus of New Palestine, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Mill Creek Baptist Church, 8762E CR-200S, Mill Creek, Ind. 46365, in honor of John.
