Carl H. Hoder, 87, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away peacefully at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, in his home.
He was born March 6, 1934, in New Buffalo, Mich., to Robert and Elsie (Eggert) Hoder.
Carl honorably served his country in the United States Army between the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was stationed at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Carl was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Michigan City, a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of American – Vaughan Chapter 160955, and a life member of the AmVets and DAV Chapter 23. He also belonged to the Sunday Morning Club. Carl coached and was affiliated with the Michigan City Stars for 20 years. He was a meatcutter for his family-owned business, Jewel, Eagle, Kingsbury Locker Plant and Meijer. Carl enjoyed traveling and taking train rides.
On March 29, 1990, in Michigan City, he married Donna L. (Arion) Hoder, who survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Carole (Ray) Bronicki; his two sons from his previous marriage, Robert and Carl Hoder, Jr., and “3rd son” Paul Hoen; three step-children: Michelle (Steve) Williams, Karol (Keith) Organ and Kevin “Mike” (Michelle) Rubeck; 11 grandchildren, Kody (Andrea) Organ, Angela, Jessica and Olivia Williams, Brandon, Heather, Emily, Lilyann and Matthew Carter, Mike (Brianna) Dorance, and Meghen Younce; and two great-grandchildren, Landon Marsh and Aurora Dorance.
Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Gurt (Hack) Hoder; one step-daughter, Kimberlie Rubeck; and two sisters, Marge (Otto) Zack and Mary (Jack) Utley.
Cremation will take place. A celebration of his life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, June 18, at the DAV, 2301 Ohio St., Michigan City. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, Ind., is handling arrangements.
