Donald Lyerla, 66, of La Porte, Ind., passed away peacefully Thursday, June 3, 2021, in his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1955, in East Chicago, Ind., to Chester and Nancy (Grisham) Lyerla.
Donald graduated from East Chicago Washington High School. He attended Ivy Tech Community College, earning his LPN. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, watching Maury and eating at his favorite local restaurant, Christos. He retired after 5 years from Midstates Manufacturing, Michigan City, Ind.
Surviving are his two children, Jacob (Ashley) Lyerla of Milroy, Ind., and Joshua (Tiffany) Lyerla of Fort Carson, Colo.; three siblings, Vivian (Marvin) Michiaels and David Keith Lyerla, both of La Porte, Ind., and Gene (Kathy) Lyerla of La Porte, Tex.; one grandchild, Liberty Joy Lyerla; nieces, Shannon (David) Luketich, Sara McClure, Nancy Gulley, Dawn Marie and Tina (Gerald Agar) Lyerla; nephews, Tim Smelko, Raymond (Kelly) Lyerla and Mannie Lyerla; great-nephews, Austin Luketich, L.J. Smelko, Raymond Lyerla, Jr., and Gabriel Lyerla; great-nieces, Hannah Cook, Emma McClure and Addison Lyerla; and several cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Chester Lyerla.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte.
