Greg Weiler, 1954-2021

Greg Louis Luedeman Weiler, 67, of Fish Lake, Ind., passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Michigan City, Ind., on Feb. 11, 1954, to Louis E. Weiler and Doris J. (Luedeman) Weiler-Morse.

Greg worked as a millwright at Bethlehem Steel/ISG/Mittal/Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc., for 48 years. He was a member of First Church of God, where he played guitar on the worship team, and was also a member of Dr. Groovy and the Soul Surgeons for 20 years. As a musician, Greg enjoyed entertaining people. He had a wonderful work ethic and an incredible gift of hospitality and encouragement to others. Greg was known for being the best hugger. He loved doing projects and was very creative. Greg fought hard to overcome his shortcomings. He taught others how to overcome theirs, as well. Greg supported and cared for everyone. His life was not his own. He belonged to God. Greg will be deeply missed by those who had the honor of knowing him.

On Aug. 26, 1972, in Michigan City, he married Lynn Fredenburg, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Bruce Weiler of La Porte, Benson “Ben” Weiler of Bloomington, John Weiler of Illinois and Heather (Tyler) McRae of St. Croix; grandchildren, Samantha, Cade, Logan, Kyleigh, Grace, Olivia, Orion, and Malaki; 4 sisters, Yvonne (Walt Creutzburg) McIntyre of La Porte, Colleen (Greg) Collins of Michigan City, Debbie (Boyd) Coats of Jacksonville, Fla., and Darlyne Burns of La Porte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Donna Bell-Weiler; and stepfather, Howard Morse.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at First Church of God, 2020 E. Lincoln Way, La Porte. Pastor Rick Jones will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
