Jeanette Gurley, 84, passed away peacefully at home in Michigan City, Ind., on Feb. 5, 2021, with her son by her side and the support of her children each and every day of her passage.

Jeanette was born Geneva Jeanette Henley on March 3, 1936, in Tracy City, Tenn., to Thomas and Cora May (Pearson) Henley, the fourth of six children.

Jeanette was dearly loved by all who knew her, especially her family. She always had a listening ear, offering words of wisdom and encouragement. She was never too busy to sit and share a cup of coffee and a meal with all who entered her home. Her greatest passion was her deep love for God and His Word. In reality her family knew her greatest passion was actually shopping, while her husband waited in the car, only to return the items the next day for a better bargain. Along with her words of kindness, she would often share a scripture with those most dear to her:

Psalm 121:1: “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He who watches over me will never slumber nor sleep. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.”

Generosity, love, and laughter will be her legacy to those she leaves behind.

                                                “love you too much”

She will be in all of our hearts forever.

On July 5, 1954, in the state of Georgia, she married Lloyd Floyd Gurley, who preceded her on Dec. 23, 2020.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl and Jack Henley; and sisters, Emma Jean Cantrell and Eva Rose Bost.

Surviving are her 9 children, Wilma (Al) Bond of Rapid City, S.D., Robert Michael Gurley of Michigan City, Jeff (Linda) Gurley of Memphis, Tenn., Cynthia (Paul) Przybylinski of Michigan City, Rickey Gurley of Michigan City, David (Christina) Gurley of Hobart, Ind., Keith Gurley of Michigan City, Terry Gurley of Michigan City, and Kimberly (Matthew) Przybylinski of Michigan City; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Powell of Spencer, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, Ind. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service honoring the lives of both Jeanette and Lloyd will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to The NewDay Foundation, P.O. Box 13, La Porte, Ind. 46352-0013; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38106-9959.
