Betty P. Moore, 89, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born March 28, 1931, in Augusta, Ga., the daughter of Marcus Phillips and Essie (Aldred) Phillips.
Betty loved being a mom and a grandmother. She was known to her grandchildren as “Mamo Moore.” She had an outgoing personality and just loved everyone. She enjoyed watching sports, especially Notre Dame football, the Atlanta Braves, and the Chicago Bulls when Michael Jordan was still on the team. She always kept herself busy and was known for keeping an immaculate home, being very organized, and making her banana dessert. She was famous for her macaroni and cheese. Betty always enjoyed a trip back home to Augusta, Ga., to visit family.
On Dec. 31, 1955, in South Carolina, she married Harry D. Moore, who preceded her in death June 13, 2018. They were married for 63 years.
Betty was also preceded in death by her son Marcus Moore, brother Marcus Phillips, Jr., sisters Dorothy Cheek, Margaret Thaxton and Helen Timmerman, and son-in-law Gene Mazur.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Mazur of La Porte and Kelly (Bill) Hastings of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; special daughter-in-law, Donna (Vern) Berg; one sister, Mary Sapp of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jenifer Hill (Archie), Lori Lachmund, Crystal (Chris) Kaldahl, Kevin (Autumn) Mazur, William Hastings, Jordan (Marissa) Hastings, and Nicky Mazur; and 13 great-grandchildren, Trevor, Parker, Nolan, Corey, Ava, Alyssa, Aubree, Jovi, Micah, Elena, Gavin, Elias, and Elowen.
The family has chosen cremation, with a service to be held at a later date. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
The family would like to extend its utmost appreciation to Grace Hospice, especially to Nurse Rhonda Gibson for taking such good care of their mom. And thank you also to Chaplain Dale Welling, who offered Mom comfort and peace and gave her a twinkle in her eye every visit. We are eternally grateful.
