Grace Lantz, 1925-2021

Grace Lucille Lantz, 95, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021.

She was born July 4, 1925, in Michigan City, Ind., to Albert and Lilly May (Godfrey) Heisler.

Grace was employed by Walters Hospital as a secretary for eight years and later in the cafeteria at Michigan City High School before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Door Village United Methodist Church, was active with Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was a state volunteer for Fire Fighters Auxiliary. Her special sense of humor and gift of laughter were with her even at the end of her life here on Earth. Grace’s upbeat and positive outlook on life remained with her even through her most trying times.

On Jan. 15, 1949, in Michigan City, Ind., Grace married George Lute, who preceded her in death on June 15, 1975. On June 16, 1979, in La Porte, she married Duane Lantz, who preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2002.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kathleen Scott and Alberta Bentley; a son, Daniel Lute; and a brother, Ray Heisler.

Grace is survived by six daughters, Jacqueline (John) Steele of Michigan City, Janet (Bob) Schmidt, Donna (Lynn) Warner, Joyce (Robin) Schultz and Deborah (Henry) Deckard, all of La Porte, and Doreen (Dan) Hammons of Sawyer, Mich.; six sons, Richard (Sheila) Lute of La Porte, Christopher (Kathy) Lute of Michigan City, William Lute of California, David (Janet) Lantz of La Porte, Dennis (Leslie) Lantz of La Porte, and Jeffrey (Sue) Lantz of Union Mills, Ind.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Grace’s life will be held at a later date. Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
