L. Anne Wegner, 1921-2020

L. Anne Wegner, 99, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Northwest Health – La Porte, Ind.

She was born May 13, 1921, in Rochester, Ind., to Ralph A. Hamilton and Dessie Honor (Sibert) Hamilton Orr.

Anne was an executive secretary, working 5 years at Bendix, 9 years at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant, 5 years at Austenal, and 24 years at New York Blower Co. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star since 1938, originally in Kewanna, Ind., and presently of Chapter 375 in Royal Center, Ind. She was also a member of NARFE Chapter 0565, La Porte County Historical Museum, People to People, Swanson Center, La Porte Hospital Foundation, a lifetime member of La Porte Hospital Auxiliary, and a patron member of the La Porte Little Theatre Club.

Anne and her husband, Rich, enjoyed traveling, including two trips to Europe and one to Hawaii. She liked reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially pinochle and euchre at the Swanson Center, where she enjoyed many friendships. Family was the most important thing in Anne’s life, and she will be greatly missed.

On March 15, 1947, at First United Methodist Church in La Porte, she married Richard G. Wegner, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Laurel A. Peterson; grandson, Jeremy T. Hoehne; 3 brothers, Daniel L. Orr, Robert S. Orr, and Gale E. Orr; and sister, L. Faith Bush.

Surviving Anne are her daughter, Lynn A. Lee of La Porte; 5 grandchildren, Gregory C. (Jaime) Sayles of Leaf River, Ill., Lisa A. (Damian) Conti of Las Vegas, Nev., Jennifer L. Doty of Glendale, Ariz., Todd R. (Julie) Peterson of Remington Ind., and Patrick J. (Kim) Hoehne of Carmel, Ind; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Pastors Evan Lash and Bob Vale will officiate. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Due to the recent governor’s order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six feet.  Also, we are limited to 25 people in the building at any given time. We kindly ask for your patience as we oversee these mandated guidelines.
