Maria “Nena” Rocha, 65, of Chicago, Ill., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Mount Sinai Hospital, Chicago.
She was born July 22, 1955, in 11 de Marzo, Durango, Mexico, to Francisco Rocha and Isabel Rocha Villa.
Maria was a devote Catholic who enjoyed spending time and doing activities with her family. She was a very happy and outgoing person who will be dearly missed.
She married Jesus Esquivel in Chicago, celebrating 30 years of marriage.
Surviving are her husband, of Chicago; five children, Alma Rocha, Sergio (Elsa Tamayo) Rocha and Yaret Rocha, all of Chicago, Sandra Rocha of McAllen, Tex., and Gabriela (Antonio Corral) Rocha of La Porte, Ind.; one sister, Guadalupe Rocha of Mexico; seven grandchildren, Magaly Rocha, Kenith Sergio Rocha, Isabel Rocha, David Rocha, Velerie Corral, Brianna Corral and Janney Corral; and one great-granddaughter, Gianna Rocha.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Teresa Amaya; three brothers, Juan, Fidel and Leocadio Rocha; and two nephews, Jorge E. Rocha and Seferino Amaya.
A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, with Father Nate Edquist officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held at the funeral home Monday, Jan. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Patton Cemetery, La Porte.
