Flora J. Ahlgrim, 90, of La Porte, Ind., died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020, at Brentwood Assisted Living Facility, La Porte.
She was born Feb. 21, 1930, in Goshen, Ind., to Glen and Mamie (Miller) Holderbaum.
In 1943 during World War II, the family moved to La Porte for job opportunities. Flora’s father, Glen, worked at the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in Kingsbury, Ind., and Flora started working at the age of 14 in a beauty shop in downtown La Porte. She also worked at New York Blower in the 1960s before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker.
On July 18, 1964, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in La Porte, she married Edward W. Ahlgrim, who survives. A faithful servant of God, she was a very active member of St. Paul until it closed ca. 2012.
Besides her husband, also surviving are her two sons, David Moyer of Three Oaks, Mich., and Kevin (Joyce) Ahlgrim of La Porte; daughter, Christine (James) Harper of Tucson, Ariz.; several grandchildren, Michael Moyer of Sarasota, Fla., Kyle (Andrea) Ahlgrim of La Porte, Stephanie Pietrzak of La Porte, Tyler Ahlgrim of La Porte, David (Sydney) Pietrzak of La Porte, Dylan Moyer of Three Oaks, and Aaron Moyer of Three Oaks; two sisters, Nellie (Robert) Zinkel of Homewood, Ill., and Janet Matteson of Las Cruces, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Arlene Lighthall of Del Mar, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Mary Tarnow; brothers-in-law, Harold Matteson and Richard Lighthall; and daughter-in-law, Rebecah Moyer.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Her final resting place will be in Patton Cemetery, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
