Mr. Robert E. Meegan, 79, of LaPorte, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1934, in Peoria, IL, to John and Genevieve (Vosges) Meegan. He had lived in the LaPorte area since 1963, coming from Richmond, VA.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member and past Grand Knight of St. Michael Council 1542 Knights of Columbus. He loved to fish and golf with his grandchildren.
On Sept. 13, 1952, in Washington, D.C., he married Patricia L. Hudson, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Deborah (John Wiese) Meegan of St. Louis, MO; four sons, Don Meegan of LaPorte, James (Christine) Meegan of Worthington, OH, Stephen (Deb) Meegan of LaPorte and Paul Meegan of LaPorte; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Michael (Tina) Meegan of Great Falls, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Patrick Meegan; two sisters and one brother.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. An informal gathering in Robert’s honor will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 5 p.m. at Knights of Columbus, 412 Lincolnway, LaPorte. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
