Mrs. Betty Jean Pearson, 81, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born March 29, 1932, in Salyersville, KY, to Brownlow and Minnie (Patton) Stepp.
Betty worked for 37 years at Whirlpool Corporation, retiring on July 1, 2000. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved traveling and vacationing in Florida. Betty enjoyed doing yard work, tending her flowers, and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a great dancer and a very active person.
On April 12, 1952, in Otis, IN, she married Henry D. Pearson, who preceded her in death June 8, 1994.
Betty was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Stepp and Sammie Stepp, and four sisters, Pearl Oliver, Ellen Risner, Lois Stepp and JoAnn Brick.
She is survived by five sons, Steve Pearson of Clearwater, FL, Gregory Pearson of New Buffalo, MI, Ronald (Genie) Pearson of Clearwater, Chris (Carol) Pearson of Quebec, and Larry (Paula) Pearson of Palm Harbor, FL; brother, Danny Stepp of Valrico, FL; and two sisters, Marylu Huskey of LaPorte and Barbara (John) Blaha of San Pierre, IN.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Sunday, Jan. 5, from 2 to 6 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 6, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A life celebration will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Curtis Southwood officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
