Velma F. Crosslin, 84, of LaPorte, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at her daughter’s home in North Judson, IN.
She was born April 12, 1929, in Haleyville, Alabama, to Vester M. and Bessie M. (Kemp) Heatherly.
Velma worked at LaPorte Plastics for nine years and at Foamex for 14 years. She was a member of Assembly of God in LaPorte. She loved to do gardening, crafts, crocheting and canning.
On April 7, 1947, in Alabama, she married William P. Crosslin, who preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1988.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodney Crosslin Sr.; daughter, Brenda Crosslin; grandson, Neil Fields; and three brothers, J.B. Heatherly, Morris Heatherly and Troy Heatherly.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry (Mary) Crosslin, Ronald Crosslin and William (Rhonda) Crosslin, all of LaPorte; daughter, Lorie (Garald) Fields of North Judson, IN; four brothers, James Heatherly, Jimmy Heatherly and William Heatherly, all of Alabama, and Thomas Heatherly of Illinois; two sisters, Mary Francis McGee of Illinois and Wilma McGee of Alabama; daughter-in-law, Jenny Crosslin; and lifetime friend and companion, William “Bill” Malone of Rolling Prairie, IN.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Monday, Dec. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A life celebration will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Coleman Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
