Alford L. Hughes, 84, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, in his home.
He was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Rhea County, TN, to Willie and Maude (Nelson) Hughes.
Alford honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a proud owner and operator of Northern Indiana Parking Lot Maintenance for 30 years. Alford was a good, wholesome family man who worked hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On March 12, 1955, in La Porte, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean (McIntosh) Hughes, who survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Vicki Childress and Misty Hughes, both of La Porte; four sisters, Margaret (Charles) Hughes of La Porte, Francis Janakowski of Minnesota, Brenda Pagan of Connecticut and Treva (Dillard) Lawson of Mill Creek, IN; three brothers, Bob (Joy) Hughes of Westville, IN, Clifford (Sue) Hughes of New Carlisle, IN, and Don Hughes of La Porte; three grandchildren, Jake (Lacey) Strefling, Nate (Danielle) Strefling and Kayden Tracy; and three great-grandchildren, Savanna, Lane and Lee Strefling.
Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers, one sister, and son-in-law, George Childress.
Cremation will take place. There will be no service. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
