Robert Harold Johnson, 89, of LaPorte, died May 28, 2013, at Brentwood, LaPorte.
He was born in LaPorte on April 11, 1924, to Carl and Florence (Tillotson) Johnson.
Robert retired from his work both as a share crop farmer and a home contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and sharpshooter. He was an avid cyclist and rode his bike all the way from LaPorte to New Orleans, LA. He was very active as a group leader in the LaPorte County Alzheimer’s Support Group.
On Sept. 16, 1949, he married Betty Coup, who preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl and Richard Johnson.
Surviving are his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Thomas Bailey of LaPorte; granddaughter, Joy Bailey; sisters and brothers, Dorothy Jennings of Cincinnati, OH, Betty J. Hahn of LaPorte, Ann (Bill) McDermott of LaPorte, and John A. (Donna) Johnson of Villages, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until the service.
