He was born June 12, 1924, in Muncie, IN, to Ray and Fay (McLain) Sherman.

Dr. Sherman graduated from Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA, in 1946 with a BS in Pre-Dental. He received his D.D.S. from Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, PA, in 1948. He served active duty in the Navy from 1942-1952 and was active in the Reserves until 1972. He retired as LCDR (Lieutenant Commander DC USNR.)

Dr. Sherman was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, Indiana State Dental Association, and Rotary of New Castle, where he served as President. He worked with Henry County Conservancy District, where he served as treasurer, and was a member of Westwood Country Club. He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ.

He was the 1942 Captain of the Middletown (IN) Cossacks basketball team and a member of Ursinus College basketball team. He loved watching IU basketball, golfing, grilling out, and working in his yard. He loved all animals and knew a lot about plants and nature. He knew everyone in New Castle; everywhere he went, he ran into at least five or six of his friends. When he moved into Brentwood in LaPorte, he continued to make friends. Everyone there loved him. Many said he was the nicest, kindest man they’d ever met. His youngest daughter said she couldn’t remember him ever raising his voice or getting angry when she and her siblings were kids. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who lived his life very well.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ann Sherman, and parents, Fay and Ray Sherman, who all resided in Middletown, IN.
