Thomas P. LaFrance, 44, of Michigan City, IN, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at 10 a.m. in his home.
He was born Aug. 24, 1972, in Hammond, IN, to Charles and Lindia (DePoy) LaFrance.
Thomas was a special education teacher for the LaPorte and Michigan City Area Schools until 2012. He lived for music, collecting record albums and attending concerts with his wife and friends. He was a gifted storyteller, creating worlds through fiction and serving as a Dungeon Master for several role-playing game groups. He was also a creative home cook, winning a WSBT-22 cooking competition in 2004 with his wife. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
On July 28, 2001, in Michigan City, he married Catherine Kramer, who survives in Michigan City.
Also surviving are his daughter, Lucie LaFrance of Michigan City; son, Isaac LaFrance of Michigan City; his parents, of Graham, NC; sister, Aimee (Steven) Krans of Mebane, NC; brother, Jon-Paul (Brandi) LaFrance of Noblesville, IN; in-laws, Thomas J. and Sue Ann Kramer of Michigan City; four nieces and two nephews; and best friend, Ron Scott of Mishawaka, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Buffalo & 10th streets, Michigan City, with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Private burial will take place. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Marquette Catholic High School, 306 W. 10th St., Michigan City, IN 46360; or to the Isaac and Lucie LaFrance Fund for Education, care of Harbour Trust and Investment Company, 1024 N. Karwick Rd., Michigan City, IN 46360.
